Infective Endocarditis: A Rare Organism in an Uncommon Setting
نویسندگان
چکیده
Facklamia hominis is a rare causative organism of infective endocarditis (IE). Only few cases of infection due to F. hominis have been reported in the literature. We describe a case of IE due to Gram-positive, alpha-haemolytic, catalase-negative coccus F. hominis in an adult patient with rheumatic mitral stenosis. Isolated mitral stenosis is an uncommon valve lesion predisposing to IE. The following paper is being presented to emphasize the possibility of IE due to F. hominis, and laboratories need to be alert of the potential significance in appropriate clinical setting.

Vertebral osteomyelitis is an uncommon complication of infective endocarditis with the organism Streptococcus viridans being a rare cause of the condition. This case highlights an unusual presentation of Streptococcus viridans associated with infective endocarditis and pyogenic osteomyelitis in a patient following a dental procedure.
متن کاملA case of Ochrobactrum anthropi-induced septic shock and infective endocarditis.
Ochrobactrum anthropi is a gram-negative rod of low virulence. Infections due to this organism are uncommon; however in immunocompromised hosts it can cause severe infections. Among the many infections it can cause, infective endocarditis is very rare. Even rarer is infective endocarditis of the native valves, as Ochrobactrum antropi affects damaged or prosthetic valves almost exclusively. This...
متن کاملAntibiotic resistance pattern of bacterial agents isolated from blood culture of patients with infective endocarditis
Background: Infective endocarditis occurs due to the presence of microorganisms in the endocardium or the heart valves. Nowadays, infective endocarditis is still a major cause of death with an incidence rate of 5 to 7.9 per 100,000 populations. The aim of the study was to determine antibiotic resistance pattern of bacterial agents isolated from blood culture of patients with infective endocardi...

Endocarditis is a disease characterized by inflammation or infection of the inner surface of the heart (the endocardium). This article will focus on endocarditis that is the result of infection (infective endocarditis). Endocarditis commonly affects heart valves, but may also involve nonvalvular areas or mechanical devices that are implanted in the heart, such as artificial heart valves, pacema...
